Murder of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner
Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner disappeared on June 21. Garnered national attention when found buried in an earthen dam near Philadelphia, Mississippi on August 4. Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman, both white New Yorkers. While James Chaney, was a local African American man. All three men were part of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). (z)
